About the Marathon Des Sables

My name is Steve Pearce and in March 2006 I will be competing (as part of a team) in the Marathon des Sables (MdS) in an attempt to collectively raise £18,000 for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) (or £6k each).

The MdS is a 6 day / 230km endurance race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco. During this time the competitors (myself included!) have to carry all food, cooking equipment, survival equipment, etc over ground ranging from sand dunes to uneven rocky ground in temperatures upto 120°F / 40°C.

Why I'm running

MS not only affects those suffering from the disease, but also the families who have to watch the disease take hold of their loved ones. Unfortunately, raising money for this charity has become a more personal challenge for us because one of our team members has a father who is affected by the disease. I hope you will agree that I will be running for a good cause and hopefully, I will make a difference to the lives of those affected with MS and their families.

Running as a Team

I have decided to run the race as part of a team. The other members in the team are David Beare and Robert Treadwell.

Sponsorship

I will be more than happy to wear and be photographed in any corporate clothing (suitable for running in) for the duration of race. I am certain that I will be featured in my local papers and hopefully I may get a story in a national newspaper.

Training

Somehow, I have to fit the required training into my life. I should be running up to 50 miles per week by the time I have to do the event.

To achieve this, I will be gradually increasing the distance that I currently run each week (between 18 and 20 miles per week). To supplement this, I will be competing in the following events:-

(To name but a few)
